Finding My Purpose with ADHD: Jen's Journey to Empowering Neurodivergent Entrepreneurs
My Journey: From Social Worker to Specialist Neurodiversity Consultant
Hi there, I'm Jen. A registered Social Worker, Neurodivergent Coach, and Specialist Consultant. My professional mission is to empower neurodivergent individuals by helping them uncover their inherent strengths and build a personalised toolkit of strategies to confidently navigate challenges. I extend this mission to organisations, guiding them to create cultures of support where every neurodivergent employee can thrive.
The Turning Point
For over a decade, my career was focused on supporting people, including ten fulfilling years as a social worker. But I always felt a pull towards something more. In 2022, I took a leap of faith, started my own business, and began travelling full-time. I thought I had found the dream, but instead, I felt lost. The lack of structure magnified challenges I'd always faced, and my usual coping mechanisms stopped working.
In 2023, I finally got the answer. Like many women, I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. It was a revelation. The "ditsy,” "dopey," and “sensitive” labels I'd shrugged off for years suddenly made sense. My struggles weren't character flaws; they were core parts of my neurodivergent brain.
The Start of Virtually Possible
When I founded Virtually Possible, I was driven by an instinct to support business owners who faced invisible barriers. I quickly found myself working with neurodivergent clients, feeling an immediate and deep connection to their experiences without fully understanding why.
My own ADHD diagnosis in 2023 was the moment it all clicked into place.
I realised I had unconsciously built the very service that I, as a neurodivergent person, needed all along. The professional suddenly became intensely personal. This new level of self-awareness allowed all the threads of my life—my social work background, my business skills, and now my validated lived experience—to weave together, enabling me to serve my clients with a profound new depth of empathy and insight.
How My Journey Shapes My Services Today
My unique path has directly shaped the three core ways I support my clients through Virtually Possible:
Business Management & Support Work: My own journey as a neurodivergent entrepreneur has taught me to build highly effective systems for clarity and organisation. This has given me a unique ability to see the small details that ensure everything runs smoothly and to simplify the complex.
My hands-on support is about transferring this expertise to you. I act as the operational partner I wish I'd had, treating your business with the same dedication as my own. Through compassionate, human-to-human support, I ask the right questions, record information clearly, and make the process feel easy. My passion is to lift the burden of executive functioning, ensuring things never become unmanageable, and freeing you to focus on your well-being and the work you love.
Neurodivergent Coaching: My coaching training provides the framework, but the heart and expertise of my approach come from a unique combination of professional skill and lived experience. I spent ten years as a social worker, which taught me how to ask questions that build partnership, trust, and connection. This professional expertise is deeply informed by my own journey as a woman who went undiagnosed for nearly 30 years. I know firsthand what it’s like to feel misunderstood. And while every person's journey is unique, my own lived experience brings a deep, authentic empathy for what it's like to navigate the world as a neurodivergent individual. It's not about having had the same experiences but about understanding the emotional landscape of feeling different. This shared understanding is what allows me to create a dedicated space where we can build deep self-knowledge and co-create the bespoke strategies that will empower you to thrive.
Neurodiversity Consultancy: My social work background, where I led complex MDTs, taught me that systems matter. My consultancy work is about applying that "big picture" thinking to help organisations, families, and individuals create genuinely supportive environments.
My Professional Journey: A Path of Continuous Learning
My commitment is to provide the highest standard of care, which requires a deep, multi-faceted understanding of the whole person. My professional development has been a deliberate, multi-stage journey:
The Foundation (Adult Social Work): My foundation is built on a degree and a decade of experience in Adult Social Work. This experience honed my ability to see the "big picture"—understanding the whole person within the complex systems of their family, work, and community. It taught me how to hold space for an individual's story, build trust through compassionate inquiry, and understand the narrative of how they arrived at their present moment.
The Business Acumen (OBM): My accreditation as an Online Business Manager sharpened my skills in planning, strategy, and project management—the practical tools to help other neurodivergent entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses.
The Bridge (Coaching & Insight): My formal training as an ADHD Coach was a pivotal moment. Through both my coaching practice and my own healing journey, a profound, unspoken layer of the neurodivergent experience was revealed to me: the cumulative trauma that comes from navigating a world not built for us. I recognised how a lifetime of feeling misunderstood, especially for those diagnosed late in life, leaves a lasting impact that goes far beyond the need for practical strategies alone.
The Clinical Expertise (Training): This insight is what now drives the next chapter of my journey. Understanding that coaching alone wasn't enough to support this deeper need, I am now committed to developing my clinical expertise. I am currently completing a Counselling qualification at Salford University and will be a certified ADOS-2 and ADI-R practitioner from the end of October. My ultimate goal is to progress to an MA in Psychotherapy in 2026, fully equipping me to offer a safe, therapeutic space to support individuals in healing the deeper wounds that can accompany a lifetime of feeling different.
My Philosophy: More Than Just Strategies
My philosophy is simple: neurodivergence is not a deficit but a unique difference with its own set of incredible strengths and genuine challenges. I want to support ND individuals to move beyond simply managing challenges and into a space of profound self-acceptance and empowerment. While the world is slowly becoming more aware, we don't have to wait for it to catch up. This means creating a therapeutic partnership where we explore your whole story—how the past has shaped your present—to build a resilient and self-loving inner world. The ultimate aim is to equip you with the deep self-knowledge to create your own supportive environment, empowering you to meet your own needs and feel whole, both now and in the future.
